Wish I could write a longer title, it still sounds confusing.

If there's one thing that bums me out in SC2 right now, it's that the upgrades for units/structures in WoL/HoTS campaign barely transferred to all games outside of it. I've always wanted a zerg-controlling tower for the Terran or the creeper swarm host strain for Zerg in my custom matches, but they're only limited to the campaign. It's too bad the campaigns can only offer so much content before you eventually complete them entirely.
But, to be fair, I understand why we didn't get them. Back when WoL was the only game, that left Zerg and Protoss without any bonus units/structures. When HoTS came out, Protoss were still left out and would be unfair to people who like playing them. While Terrans and Zerg get new structures and units, the Protoss are still left with the basic stuff they've had roughly since WoL came out.
But now LoTV is coming out, and if WoL and HoTS were of any indication, the Protoss will now be getting their own campaign that adds new units/structures! I think now would be the best time to finally let the bonuses from all campaigns be added to custom and matchmaking games.

There's a reason why campaign stuff isn't in the multiplayer. Campaign stuff is op. For example, one base marine medic would be impossible to stop. Same for immortal ultralisks
But the main problem is how we get the upgrades. Does everyone get all the upgrades? So they only get the ones they bought in the campaign, so everyone has different upgrades? What if I played through the campaign multiple times? Which save does the game use?
There's an extension mod called swarm mod that already factors in many of the units from campaign, and some of the upgrades as well.
However, I would not be opposed for blizzard to make an extension mod like swarm mod that has everything from campaign. It just can't be applied to 1v1 ladder.

Well..the mod I made, FORGE mod, kind of does that. it has campaign units and custom units. not all campaign units would workout in multiplayer, ex. zerg-controlling tower for the Terran has no use vs terran and protoss, and in late game who wants to send in an army, just to get mind controlled and attacks you instead? zerg strains seem more like a simple upgrade that should be applied to all, or the model is to similar which is why I have yet to add them..but also because the editor is supper hard even though I have done a lot with it
Yup with Protoss probably getting their load of OP units from their campaign in LOTV. I think Blizz should make a mode with all units available without thinking of balance. All units and upgrades from the campaign usable in a custom game so we can have fun with friends. Ill try the FORGE mod to see how it does but a version made by blizzard would probably be the best. Hope this happens.
Ultimate Campaign Mod by Scrythe.. by far the best mod I've seen for all units all upgrades. It is balanced enough to play, and yet still has all the old SC1 units that were in the campaigns, plus units that never made it like the replicant is there, and its awesome, I never like the idea of the replicant during the development phases, but after playing with it, it is awesome! Would have been nice if they included the robot for terran, the one that they took out, forgot its name, but they do have like goliaths, so that's good enough. But the cool thing is they have like the Mercenary upgrade where you get Merc tanks and Merc rines, so awesome!
This mod gives you so many options, its so cool, I've spent hours playing on it with friends, and I thank the developer so much for this. So cool!

I do wish there was a downloadable link to the Ultimate Campaign Mod by Scrythe. That way I could incorporate it into my maps. Being a beginner in the map editing arena, it would be immensely helpful.

So far, if I want to play modded campaign, I can only open an individual map, and mod things there, and after finishing the map, the campaign proceeds as normal without mods.
What I would like to do, is start with all research completed, all upgrades purchased, and all merc contracts purchased.
Is there any file I can make a mod from that will basically serve as a start for the campaign, but with all that stuff completed?
Perhaps such a mod would start right after the first mission?
Right after you make it to the hyperion?
I'd call it a Not-So-Brutal mod, and play it on Brutal difficulty (note, I've already completed the campaign on Brutal, and obtained all story achievements except some listen to dialogue ones, and the lost viking stuff)
In particular, I'd really like to play some missions with the upgraded forms of units.
Firebats? after the mission they are introduced.. I basically never used them again.. would be nice to actually have a mission where I can use those upgrades.
Diamondbacks? after the mission they are introduced I never used them again.. would be nice to actually have a mission where I can use those upgrades.
Wraiths?after the mission they are introduced.. I basically never used them again.. I've tried using them with banshees on supernova.. but upgraded vikings worked better - would be nice to actually have a mission where I can use those upgrades.
Hellions? I barely even use them on the mission they are introduced.. just to get through the first night or two.. - would be nice to actually have a mission where I can use those upgrades.
Vikings? Ok, I got some additional use out of them.. mainly on supernova.. and all in if I took out the worms.. and a few units (mainly the mercs) as minor support on other missions.. I'd like to play their main mission with those upgrades.
Vulture.. never used those units again.. didn't even build more than the starting amount..
Ghost/spectre? I used them for novely a few times.. but then again, they aren't really introduced in a mission because you play with hero units.
Reapers? I used them twice.. the mission they are introduced, and in outbreak.. thats it. it would be nice to get more use out of their upgrades.
Marauders.. I suppose, like marines, I use them somewhat often, mainly to sit in bunkers on defense.
Medivacs? never used them after the first mission
Banshees? didn't use them aside from their mercs and units that come for free on gates of hell, after the first mission (though they can be used well on all in)
Goliaths? never used them after their first mission
Thors? never used them after their first mission (aside from gates of hell, where they come for free)
Notice a pattern here? the time to have fun playing with the upgraded units is the time the units are introduced..
So I'd like a mod that has all the upgrades already unlocked by the first time you use them.

No, I don't mean the ability.
I mean the Mod where you can play the entire Starcraft/broodwar campaign with Starcraft 2 engine and graphics. I am playing through it and I'm having a great time, really enjoyed how well done the original campaigns were before Blizz went all 'hollywood' with it (story wise)
So far, I've been through the first few missions (terran campaign first) and so far so good, there is a map where you get the option to control raynor as a 3rd person shooter or play it normal. Really, really, cool stuff here, some of the missions/units you have access to aren't exactly the same as the original but the changes are all for the better. I highly recommend looking up this mod and giving it a play through. You can't find it on the arcade so you'll have to look it up on google but its well worth it if even for the nostalgia of it all.
The other mod I am looking forward to is Starcraft Universe, has anyone heard anything regarding that project? I can't find the map and haven't found much online.

Look also for SCR - TGW. I haven't played it yet, but from what I've heard they took Mass Recall mod and it's campaign, polished it and added an additional campaign. It sounds really great so far, I will test it myself soon.

Yes, I played some missions recently as well. It's amazing.
I really feel like Blizzard should hire these people and offer them a job, because they definitely have talent.

It's a very fun experience.
As a veteran Sc1 player, Mass Recall is trash. It just takes away from the original story when the creators added their own misguided interpretation of what the inbetween cutscenes would be like. The core missions being recreated gives a sense of novelty for like the first 2 missions. Once it wears off, it's a pretty badly made recreation, quite unfaithful to the core of the Sc1 character. The actual characters and original cinematics save it from being a complete mess, but the clunky difficulty that does not scale properly and the supposed 'additions' in between missions are very stupid and aggravating. Not worth it.
If you want to play Starcraft 1, then play it. I don't recommend sullying your memories with this piece of trash mod. I'd rather battle that old UI than play this nonsensical interpretation of events.
My 2 cents.

I can see how a hard critic could be displeased, but the fact fans made an effort to make such a remarkable remake is awesome, I recall Blizzard putting it in a spotlight a few times.
I don;t see how it's vastly different from the original interpretation either, seems pretty accurate, but if you wish to discuss how it was different, by all means, let's have it. if not, I think my statement stands firm :)

agreed.
Massrecall was one of the best mods I played. I loved the cinematics they made like when tassadar was getting judged by the conclave.
I can't find it. I tried 'mass recall' in custom games, mods, and arcade games.

I have no idea what you're talking about here since all the missions are recreated as close as possible (I recall they used a program to convert the original maps into the sc2 engine and the adjusted them so the terrain was fixed? All triggering ect was their own) with zero additions other than the fps versions of the installtion missions which are optional anyway?
As far as i know there's 0 new content in the form of 'extra lines' or 'new maps'. I'd say you're just mired by nostalgia and didn't realize how the original game played.
but the fact fans made an effort to make such a remarkable remake is awesome,That fact is undeniably great - it's a fan-made mod. It took time and effort, and they deserve a pat on the back for that alone.
Other than that, they don't really deserve to have their work called 'good' just because of the effort. The quality is lacking. It really does not recreate the original feel except in select situations. I am just going off the top of my head, but that exchange with General Duke in that 2nd mission was so watered down compared to what I originally felt in the genuine article. Also, the difficulty being arbitrarily set to a higher level than what was in the original game takes away from the experience as well, since you're basically not enjoying the story as much, even on the normal difficulty level because you're having to concentrate on mechanics a lot more - a far cry from what the original SC1 provided as an experience. This here shows the lack of experience in re-creating the original feel of the game. It disappointed me and led me to think of the additions as garbage, and I mean that in the nicest way possible.
That comment is expected to rustle the jimmies of the blind fans of the mod who aren't privy to having an independent opinion but that of a biased perspective, no matter what, which is quite idiotic such as:

There was a lot wrong with the 'remake', and just because some idiot on the internet will BM me for disagreeing does not mean I shouldn't say it out loud because I'll rustle jimmies, hurt egos or hurt their poor feelings.

agreed. That idiotic mob mentality.seems pretty accurateOnly on those parts directly ported over from the original, for which the creators of this mod have no creative right to - Blizzard's team does.
Everything else was done quite poorly and took away from the experience. It's been a while since I played that mod, I'll have to look for it and reinstall, but essentially, this opinion of mine comes from playing it originally and being extremely jaded by it. I'll do a second playthrough for fairness' sake.
In your opinion, though, what would you consider 'pretty accurate' outside of ported material from the original game?

Please re-play through the whole campaign and come back for your comments; you clearly weren't paying enough attention at all if you saw 'zero additions'. And those FPS installation missions being included was merely for fun, I understand, and they didn't really appeal to me, so I am not judging that as a core part of the campaign. The core parts were destroyed, from a veteran fan's perspective, by those really annoying fanmade cutscenes that were so obvious and forced, not to mention modified to suit the modding rather than abiding by the original story.

I'd say you're just mired by nostalgia and didn't realize how the original game played.'Mired by nostalgia' is ironic to say about a mod that is supposed to be miring the user in nostalgia of the original game in a new UI and engine. The extra scenes created using original dialogue instead of sticking to the original action from the game, no matter if it was just static action, is what broke the immersion of the story.
Need to played it, I m curious of sc1.
mass recall is really well refined, probably a lot has changed since you last played. all of the custom models and portraits are done and it plays like sc1 without the bad pathing

I found it yesterday, and I plan to play over this week.

I'm pretty sure that 'SC1 maps to SC2 converter' is part of the SC2 editor, therefore they could legally use it.
We shall see.
I found it yesterday, and I plan to play over this week.
Patch 3.0 and over screwed some things over, so expect some visual bug, especially if you're using the retro edition.
They fixed the most bugs they could've do fast. Now they're working on the LotV-version of the mod. ( I mean LotV - compatible]
Also, don't forget that there are people who did not play SC1, and now, because of the limitations, they don't want to. For them, this is a dream. [I am one of them]
It really does not recreate the original feel except in select situations.
You've got to admit that they couldn't recreate it 100% since the SC2 editor itself is not that dark in mood.
Also, when did you last replay it?: Because a lot of things have probably changed sincs then
@Eladar
I wasn't referring to legal right to port the game over. I was talking about creative license to just add random crap I do not want in my SC1 experience simply because I prefer an unaltered version of the original game within the SC2 engine. The creation of those so called cutscene fillers was detrimental to my experience, as a veteran Sc1 and Broodwar player.
With regards to new players experiencing it, I have no doubt that they will like it. But, don't expect any true veteran to come in here and like the additional content to the game. I certainly don't appreciate it, as it ruins my memories of what I expect the game to play like and be.
And, since the game is probably effed up due to LOTV releasing, I am going to hold off on playing it. Thanks for the heads up.
The dark mood as you put it was never a reason for me liking the original game or not;that's another piece of fluff I find people adhering to, in order to compare the original game to SC2, and I frankly cannot give 2 craps about that since it contributes nothing to the quality of the story. This is why I found Broodwar to be nonsense as a story, while other people revere it as the holy grail of storytelling which is quite annoying and stupid. The only real champion of story telling was Vanilla SC1 and Mass Recall managed to ruin it with unwanted and unnecessary fluff. Again. Immaterial to contribute to the quality of the story, and in fact detracts from it.
I played Mass Recall in 2013/2014. So, this is why I plan to play it over again to be fair. I doubt it will change much of what I think of it, though.
The problem is: I know what happens in the original game, and that makes this iteration feel like a cheap knockoff in terms of quality. The missions don't even play as well as I had imagined them to. Oh well, I will post again about it when they fix the game mod and I get to do a playthrough. Stay tuned.

Is there any proper extension mod with ALL campaign units and upgrades? I've been searching for something like that for hours and there was no mod that gave all the upgrades (most of them had all the units but practically no upgrades). I've been thinking maybe Blizzard could make an official extension mod with all these units and upgrades. With zerg for example being able to freely choose strains or terran that could call mercs. I tried to do it myself believe me but it's just too complicated, the only thing I managed to do is having zerglings able to have 3 campaign upgrades and able to be chosen strain and for terran it was having all the units and some upgrades to bio.
They might do it when Protoss gets theyr equals of Strains or Mercs.
I'm actually in the process of making this extension mod myself and could use some more testers if you'd care to help.
Look for Campaign and Multiplayer Tech extension mod by Sage on Bnet.
You might not entirely agree with my vision though:
There isn't much real choice left. All tech is available to each race, so both Zerg strains can be morphed and all upgrades are available. You can have Hunter Banelings with healing, improved radius and improved damage. Similarly Terran behaves as if they had enough credits to buy everything and all lab tech is researched. The result is that everyone except protoss are overpowered :)

This is actually very good, though it has some bugs e.g. tank in siege mode can't attack units (returns an error). Besides I thought of something more DIY, meaning that all the upgrades you have to complete and you made them already installed. Other than that this mod is great.
I only recently added Siege Tanks back in, I'll take a look, thanks :)
Siege tanks are fixed, appreciate the report. As for DIY: I've started moving Terran upgrades from given to researchable, the way Left 2 Die does it. I'm sticking to the ones Left 2 Die converted for now though.
Thanks for the info. If you want I can be a tester but I will need your Skype (if you have of course). For now I'm gonna look into what you've changed.
Fair enough. My name is Bjorn van de Sand and I live in the Netherlands. That should be sufficient to find me?
Off the top of my head, Regenerative Biosteel @ Factory tech lab and Stabilizer Medpacks @ Barracks tech lab, are in.

Hi, is this thing still alive, can it be brought back for lotv?
Is there a way to load everything into the Editor and just make a campaign of my own that includes all? What happens if later more expansions came out, can I add them to excising maps?
I thought of doing a mod that be like ' Empire of War ' but so far I think its not possible with the game. Its kinda a shame a Conquest map to play vs the AI would had been for sure more fun then just playing the Campaign and the Multilayer I would not bother since the speed is to fast.

If you have purchased one game then you should have access to all of the art assets if thats what youre interested in. Make an new map then in the Dependencies (which generation, Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm and so on) click Custom then Modify and add all Standards.
Exclude Warcraft 3 assets if you dont want that.
